ABOUT
Help us save New York City. We are the NYC Chapter of the Union of Taxpayers.
88% of City taxpayers say they want the Union of Taxpayers to fight for their rights, according to our survey. And a large majority say the City's elected officials do not represent them. We consider this to be an overwhelming mandate and it is our honor and privilege to fight for taxpayer rights.
We are uniting taxpayers for the good of the City. The City suffers from financial mismanagement on a massive scale with a flawed system for accountability. Unless we act quickly, the problem will result in erosion of the tax base as taxpayers leave the City and businesses avoid the City. The problem is due largely to the marginalization of taxpayers. Consequently, the City needs a Taxpayer Oversight Board to reign in the massive budgets and excessive debts.
The Mayor is now talking about raising taxes and/or making service cuts and/or degraded quality of life. Taxpayers REFUSE to agree without governance changes that give taxpayers a real voice in budget and tax decisions.
Financial crisis of historic proportions is coming due to mismanagement by NYC Mayor De Blasio.
NYC TAXPAYERS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
We represent the people the NY politicians have forgotten about - the taxpayer. The 2,438,000 people who pay nearly all of the NYC personal individual taxes in NYC (income and property tax) which includes the 1,034,000 who pay property tax. Income and property taxpayers also pay the majority of NYC sales tax revenue paid by individuals (we estimate 76% because there is no sales tax on food or on retail purchase of $110 or less which means those who pay no income tax - also pay little or no sales tax).
"Nothing will change" is the feedback from most New Yorkers. We have become numb to the pain we endure every day with a government that cares little to nothing about taxpayers. But the great thing about America is that we can make a difference. By law, we can change the City Charter with 30,000 signatures on a petition. That will allow us to create to add a Taxpayer Oversight Board (a "TOB") via referendum. The TOB will have a right to veto excessive spending and taxes. And we can unite to take other action so that taxpayers are not taken for granted. In unity - there is strength. Join us now.
TAKE ACTION
We need to take action - before it's too late. Join the Union. Sign our petitions. Volunteer. Take back our City.
Click on the link below to sign our NYC petitions. By law, if we have 30,000 signatures, the City must change the City Charter by referendum.
The Mayor and Governor are talking about raising taxes even higher. We refuse to accept more taxes without a change to governance that incorporates taxpayer rights. It's not fair and it's not right to take more from taxpayers while taxpayers have effectively no representation.
TAXPAYER RALLIES - JOIN US - DEMAND CHANGE Click to See All Events
Since September the Union has conducted seven Taxpayer Rallies and dozens of public outreach events. During this time, we have contacted over 50,000 taxpayers digitally, physically met over 5,000 taxpayers, received feedback from over 2,000 including collecting over 1,000 petition signatures and surveys and increased membership by over 700%. Overwhelmingly, people have committed to the Union and want Union representation. The biggest concern expressed by taxpayers is that the status quo is too entrenched for the Union to change. We know that only with unity can real change happen and so we need every taxpayer to join and support the Union and, if possible, to volunteer and to spread the word.
