We promote taxpayer interests and protect taxpayer rights. We don't see the world through the lens of red or blue, depending on party. Instead, we see green - protecting taxpayer funds. The Taxpayers' Union is 100 percent politically independent. We are not affiliated with any political party and our agenda is non-partisan.
Why a union? Because taxpayers have no effective representation in many jurisdictions. Taxpayers have come to realize that the only solution is to unite to protect their interests. There is strength in unity.
Before the Union started, taxpayers were fragmented and divided. Most politicians liked it that way. They took advantage of taxpayers by leading them to believe that their interests are well-represented by their elected representatives while diverting their attention to other issues and making them think those other issues are more important. This resulted in a dilution of taxpayer votes. Media amplify this misdirection because financial stability is not as dramatic as other issues that can generate more clicks or views. The truth is that financial stability is of central importance in any successful government. Nothing government can achieve is possible without financial stability. The people of Detroit learned that lesson the hard way when their City declared bankruptcy in 2013. That's why people from all political backgrounds support the Union.
We intend to become the largest union in the United States thereby representing the interests of over 220 million people who pay individual taxes (we do not represent corporate taxpayers). Our representation is especially important in cities and states where a structural bias and political bias against taxpayers has developed. Too often, politicians say they care about taxpayers but fail to follow up their words with action. Furthermore, many politicians, once elected, use taxpayer funds to fulfill promises to favored special interest groups. The Union was formed because taxpayers will no longer tolerate such deceit which amounts to taxation with effectively no representation. The Union fights against the attitude that taxpayers work for the government, which is antithetical to America's founding principles. Government works for taxpayers.
The Union is not opposed to taxes. We simply want taxpayers to have a real voice in how their tax dollars are used and when taxes are increased. We expose, and fight against, government waste and inefficiency. Individual members may have their own political preferences, but as an organization the Taxpayers’ Union is vigorously independent in promoting the interests of all taxpayers.
+ Join the Union. We need everyone in it. If we all join together - the government must finally listen to taxpayers. Every American, regardless of party, has a critical interest in liberty and liberty dies when taxpayer rights are ignored. Our members include a wide range of Americans - united in a desire for Liberty and financial stability.
Union Members not only gain a voice in governance - they also gain benefits including low-cost tax assistance from tax lawyers, CPAs, tax specialists and financial advisers. You can rest assured that each of these providers are committed to taxpayer rights. See our Benefits.
